Sparkle season

Our days have been merry and bright around these parts.

We had four holiday parties in five days, including a particularly crazy one, marathon Christmas shopping and, of course, back-to-back viewings of season four of "The Wire." (We're actually getting HBO for season five because we can't possibly wait for it to come out on Netflix. And I've always had a moral opposition to paying for premium channels, so you know I must truly love this show.)

My family is coming into town tomorrow, then the fiance and I are splitting our Christmas break between Boston and Pittsburgh. (Thank you, Jetblue!) Even though it's our fifth Christmas together, we've never spent the day together, so that's kinda sorta special.

So onto the making! When sweaters get you down, it's time to turn to the sewing machine. Enter Built by Wendy.

I absolutely adore this pattern - it was fun to sew, not terribly complicated and fit perfectly. And since I'm sort of a dimwitted seamstress, this was a real shocker. I'll have it easier next time around thanks to the darling Marie, who was my Spiders Secret Santa and bought me a fabulous Olfa rotary cutter and cutting board! (And a pom pom maker to boot.)

Here I am, coy and fuzzy! I like that the fabric calls to mind ornate drapery or fussy wallpaper.

All the season's best to you and yours, dear blog readers.

I love that shirt- such a simple style, but the fabric makes it look fancy. Super cool.

Where do you find fabric like that? We have no decent fabric stores near us :(

Happy holidays!

Love the top -- definitely looks better as a garment than upholstery.

When are you going to be in the 'Burgh? Are you planning on doing any yarn store trips to the city?

Allow me to be the first to admit my enjoyment of "The Wire," too. In fact, yesterday, citing the same immediate need, I ordered HBO for the final season. I have never paid for HBO before--I've only seen it at hotels, friend's and when it was on special. I thought the last season was a bit slow compared to the prior seasons; although they always build up from the first episode to the end. I believe the fourth season was a break in the action and a build up for what's to come. (Week season four spoiler alert: Characters that had moved apart have come together again.)

I've also enjoyed Deadwood and the Sopranos. Maybe HBO will present me with more than just the Wire this January->whenever the 13th episode ends.

Love the little knit sweater ornaments! And the top is adorable.

It's great to hear that The Wire is catching on...although too bad this will be the last season. And in response to Jeremy, David Simon wasn't sure whether he'd get a fourth season, so that's why everything seemed wrapped up at the end of the third. And then this fourth one will segway into the fifth. Sorry to see it end after this, but thank god for DVDs.

Oh my god, my husband and I are doing the same thing for the Wire. We ran through all the first 3 seasons on Netflix last spring, waiting eagerly for Season 4 to come out, BOUGHT the darn thing because we were too impatient for Netflix, and are going to get HBO simply to watch Season 5. i can't believe someone else is that crazy/addicted but what an amazing show.

ps love the shirt

1. I love the tiny sweaters!

2. That top looks so good on you! Your fabric choice is awesome! If it looks like wallpaper, that is so stunning wallpaper!

3. The wire is the BEST show on TV! It is so justifiable getting HBO just to see it! :)
