Surprise!

This went so fast that I didn't even have a chance to tell you about it.

It's a slightly lengthened Cloud bolero, a pattern that I had never seen before Ravelry. I thought this would be the perfect little number to throw on at the office, seeing as the temperature is positively arctic thanks to insane air-conditioning. It's like goosebumps cold, people. We're all dressed like it's December. Maybe I need to call up Al Gore and ask him to intervene?

Anywho. I used four balls of Debbie Bliss Alpaca Silk, which I picked up with a generous gift certificate to Knot Another Hat from Jon's mom. (Thanks again!) This knit up FAST. The pattern is easy to memorize and superb "Law and Order" knitting. (There's a 16-hour marathon tomorrow, for those of you not working. That's a lot of Lennie!) The only thing that I struggled with was the picot bind-off -- I'd never done it before, and I'm not sure that I even did it right. But it looks about right. I decided to lengthen it mainly because I had enough yarn, and I always worry that cropped cardigans make me look truncated.

It's a little tough not to look like a simpleton when using the timer on your camera. (That's one of my grandmother's cameos. Cute, no?)

The back of the bolero really shows off the feather and fan pattern. (Sorry for the partially obstructed view -- again, I'm not that adept at using the automatic timer on the camera).

So I've been feeling a little bad about criticizing Fabric Save-a-thon in my last post. Please don't think I'm a snob or nasty to salespeople -- I worked at Joann Fabrics for a few months and endured awful, awful customers. I just don't want to be insulted when I'm making a purchase!

Oh, and if anyone is interested in deconstructing the new Transformer movie, well, here you go.

Wow, I LOVE it longer. I'd seen it short and thought "Cute, but that would totally make me look weird and truncated." Never occurred to me to just....make it longer. Thanks for the inspiration!

It's lovely. I agree with Ashley - it looks great longer. I may just have to make this now...

It's adorable! It looks so great on you, and making it longer was a fantastic idea.

don't feel guilty about criticizing a rude salesperson. I worked in retail for years, and if you can't be nice to people, you shouldn't work in retail.Period.

Wow, that is so cute, Carrie! I hear you on the arctic offices... I guess it goes with the territory in an archive though, so I always have a cardigan :)

Enjoy the new cardi!

Carrie it is too cute for words! Nice mod, often I think too short boleros make the wearer look like a hunchback...

So flattering, especially with the beautiful cameo. I imagine it would be perfect for the chilly workplace (alas a problem I do not share).

Cute elongated bolero!
About Sav-a-thon: you always seem to have had experiences in stores (remember K-mart?). I don't know if I'm simply deaf to people's odd remarks, or just so arrogant that I don't hear them... But I definitely don't think anything is your "fault"!

You can't feel bad about an honest report. There was nothing there that smacked of a bad attitude from you.

I love this cardigan. Thank-you for blogging it. I have to do this!

Pretty bolero. And yes, 16 hours is a lot of L&O - although I watch it for McCoy :)

Super cute! It's definitely working for you at the longer length -- and I hear you about cold offices. Would you believe the genius who designed my office building decided to make my office (and the two adjacent to it) with no heat?! I'm bundled up like it's winter year round.

Your bolero is so cute! I wish I would learn how to crochet already :(

Sometimes at work, I bring in a small sweater to throw over my shirt in the summer, and still need to go out to the car and get and additional light jacket. Now that's AC!!

it looks really cute on you, and I love it longer too. Now I know what to do with the Alpaca silk I have lying around (bought cheap at Stitches East last year). I may have enough to lengthen the sleeves too. Any advice about doing that?

this is so delightful! the use of the cameo is brilliant, and the lengthened piece will surely be useful. (Our office has made a new push to be "green," so they increased the temp to completely normal levels. It's exciting!)

It's fabulous! I love the longer version, just the way I loved the way you lengthened the Glee sleeves. You're such a smart one! It's perfect with your grandmother's cameo, too. I always wanted one of those.

Gorgeous! I queued this after seeing it on Ravelry, too. I think this pattern got a huge push there! Suddenly it was all over "my friends' activity"! Maybe it's time for me to put down some of the baby knitting and make something for myself...
