Smitten with knittin' mittens

I like to think that I'm cool about maybe half the time. Sometimes I'm early to the game, sometimes I'm late. Knee-high boots and shirtwaists? Early to the game. Ipods and blogs? Late to the game. Making fun of HeadOn? Very early. Netflix and Tivo? Still not there.

This brings me to mittens. They seem to be the toast of the knitting
blog world. I was resistant, as mittens are kinda like socks, inasmuch as they cover our outmost appendages. And I just can't get into knitting socks. At least not yet.

So on Saturday, my dear, dear Spiders came over for our festive holiday party. And there was nearly a throwdown over a mitten book. The next morning I thought, what am I missing out on?

And now I know! Here's the very very beginning of my Squirrelly Swedish Mittens. Cute, no? Knitting plus tiny sylvan creatures equals joy!

And speaking of joyful, here are the Spiders, squished in my living room. (You can see Lisa thumbing through the mitten book.)

I'm off to Pennsylvania on Friday -- and I hope that I'll be blogging more from there. I've been in a bit of a drought, but please stick with me.

I think those squirrels are going to force me to cave as well - I fear squirrels like I fear no other creature, so they would be mittens of irony for me.

(leaping enthusiastically onto the bandwagon) I think my next project is colorwork mittens too. First of the new year, I think. Mittens are the new socks! Colorwork is the new lace! Anemoi is the new Clapotis!

Oh yes, I'm always late too. I've just recently started a Clapotis and I still haven't kit Jaywalkers. And nope, I've never done mittens yet either - or color-work, which also seems to be the "in-knitting" right now. The start of your mitten looks so great, I may have to finally give them a try. Have a safe trip and a wonderful Christmas.

Ooh, I love that pattern! I made some for my sister for Christmas but unfortunately the second one came out larger than the first. I need to practice my colorwork :(

Have a great trip!

Hey, at least you make it ahead of the game on some things ~ mittens, socks, colorword, clapotis, they've all passed me by. But keep posting pics of those mittens, you might convince me. Safe travels!

I've been making nothing but gloves for Christmas presents, so the thought of mittens seem so COMFORTING! No little fingers on dpns to worry about!

I'm late for everything. I don't think I've been early for anything. I still haven't got an IPod, Netflix account or TiVo. I have cast on , but not finished a Thrumm mitten or a Fingerless Mitten. Sigh, someday maybe.

I love the Squirrelly Mittens. They are so cute.

I still haven't even bought yarn etc for my first pair of mitts, but since I will always lose at least one of a pair of gloves/mitts, it's probably for the best.

I had a wonderful time at your beautiful home, thanks so much for hosting the party!
