Extreme blog makeover

First the hair, now the blog. I hope you like the new look around these parts. As much as I love the little reporter gal who graced my banner, I had long wanted to create something that better linked knitting and writing and reporting and blogging. (Plus, I was so sick of the blogger dots in the background!)

I've had the idea of knitting with writing implements for a while, so yesterday I finally bought some No. 2s, knit a swatch on actual needles then transferred the yarn to the pencils. Then I took a few photos, and here you go. I realize this is "Every Word's a Purl" -- not "Every Word's a Knit" -- but the purl side of the fabric never looks quite as nice.

To fully disclose, I was actually prompted to redesign after seeing the Spiders this weekend. They informed me that my blog had totally wacko margins in Firefox, and they thought I did this ON PURPOSE! I didn't! I guess I'm not up on these new-fangled web browsers, and it looked A-OK in Internet Explorer. I feel like I was walking around with toilet paper on my Steve Maddens -- or, as Lisa and Veronique can attest, spinach in my teeth.

So, onto the actual knitting. I finished up the Yankee pin-striped cardigan from "Knitting for Baby", and we gave it to my friend's baby, Omri, this morning. He was so cute and fun and pleasant.

And for any of you who follow the news, things have returned almost to normal in our neighborhood, after a woman buying yogurt at my grocery store was briefly held hostage early Saturday. When I went over tonight to buy ingredients for a potato and artichoke rosti, a poor TV reporter was outside asking people if they felt safe. Just for fun, I almost screamed at him, "You vulture! No comment!"

ooh! I love the redesign! GREAT banner!

I use firefox, but the margins didn't bother me so much. I've seen much, much worse. :)

cool makeover :) should've done that... NO COMMENT! the irony that it's from a reporter to a reporter? priceless.

It looks awesome! I'm a Safari user and yes, the margins were weird, but I'm used to it because a lot of pages show up that way. We Mac users are oft second class citizens, I'm afraid. Either way, I still loved the blog then and love it even more now!

I really like the new layout too!!

It did look really weird in Firefox. I figured that's how you wanted it though so I kept quiet!

I'm sorry to hear about the neighborhood drama :(. Hopefully things will settle down.

Love the makeover, although I will miss seeing that cute little reporter girl! I'd like to do something spiffy w/ my blog, but have no idea how. Any suggestions?

It looks awesome! And I'm so bummed I missed Spiders on a day that you were able to come! Darn it. Hopefully next Friday will be a dull one in NYC and you'll be able to get out of the office early. :)

Ha, your vulture - no comment comment is hilarious. Did you know the other reporter?

The redesign looks great, and it's a lot nicer to read in Firefox.

Great sweater!

The funniest thing is that you, a reporter, called another reporter a vulture. The irony!

Your redesign is fantastic. We need to play with our margins too.

You mastered the template change! I know Blogger makes it seem so easy ("one click") but it never really is that way, is it?

Love the new look!! I need to come up with a snappy new banner... The little stripey jacket turned out so cute! I'm sure the intended baby will be snuggly and cozy in it.

I love the new banner - I never noticed the funky margins, but I've been known to walk around with toilet paper on my shoe on many an occasion.

Fabulous banner. And my blog has the opposite problem - it works in Firefox but not IE. Alas. But as a Red Sox fan, I cannot support your sweater.

Delurking to tell you how AWESOME your banner is - nice job... and how cool that you acknowledge that the knit side is up on a purl-named page - love that attention to detail! ;)

Like the new blog look and the new hair. I wonder how my blog looks in Firefox. It looks all neat and just so in IE.

I would have laughed my arse off if you had yelled at that reporter. Pretty funny.

Love how the sweater turned out. It looks so cute and cozy.

Fabulous banner! I actually sort of taught a couple of my students to knit using pencils last year (back when I was still teaching) -- not the greatest of needles, but they work in a pinch.

brava on the redesign and banner! i never thought you'd done the weird firefox display on purpose, but i always assumed it was my fault, not yours. ah, the guilty conscience.

Nice makeover- I've been dyyyying to do something with my blog as well. By the way, the brand of my halter dress is Jessica Howard. I don't see it anywhere on the macy's website, but my Macy's was actually a Kauffman's only a few weeks ago...

The redesign looks great. I have a history of knitting with items other then needles - when knitting needles weren't allowed on planes I knit with chopsticks - I hid them in my hair while going through security! The pinstripe sweater is so cute - go Yankees...I'm from the Bronx so a Yankee fan by default.

LOVE the new craft corner!

Oh, and I've got a power screwdriver and seem to live reasonably close to you. I'm getting a book case and might be getting rid of some white shelves if they're of any interest to you. They're currently holding loads of books so they'll actually hold things if you need shelves to hold things.

Pinstripe sweater's cute - even if the Yankees aren't...

the new blog layout looks great! I agree; the knit side of a fabric always appeals to me more than the purl side (maybe because it reminds me of all those horrible garter-stitch Homespun scarves squirreled away out of sight).

It looks great. I need to do the same since mine looks so generically "blogger-ish."

I was briefly (28 hours) in PA this week. It took everything I had not to bring the car to a screeching halt and rip the Santorum campaign posters out of front yards as I drove around. My mom, who lives there, had no clue that he was a national laughingstock,at least among liberals; I was not about to enlighten her with the the Dan Savage definition of "Santorum."

Your layout is indeed much improved. As a fellow blogger user, I sometimes get frustrated that I can't do more with my layout but it's probably more due to the fact that I know diddly about web design.

Tres cute sweater, and very subtle.
